Sclerotherapy, or injection therapy, is a non-surgical procedure in which problematic varicose or spider veins are injected with small needles resulting in their disappearance. Anesthesia is not necessary as most patients find the treatment to have little or no pain.
Sclerotherapy works by irritating the lining of the vein such that the vein seals shut, re-routing blood through healthier veins. Treatments take approximately 20-30 minutes and only require a few treatments for the best results. Results may be seen within a few days, but it may take up to 12 weeks for treated veins to be completely reabsorbed by the body.
